Asking someone if they would rather have clean windows or dirty windows is a dumb question because the answer is obvious. So why then do some people have dirty windows? Could it be because the subconscious consequences are about as clear to the average homeowner as their windows? Having clean windows is often seen as a consequence-less luxury or something done to increase curb appeal for the sale of a home. We present that any money invested into window cleaning will be repaid at least double.

James Wilson and George Kelling introduced their “Broken Windows” theory in 1982 which suggested that visible signs of crime, anti-social behavior, and civil disorder lead to further crime and disorder, including serious crimes. The theory gained more attention in the 1990s in New York City when police commissioner William Bratton and Mayor Rudy Giuliani applied the principles of the theory by doing things such as replacing broken windows and removing graffiti every night.

Now in Cedar City, USA you might not be worried that dirty windows will lead to your car being stolen tonight and that’s not what we are suggesting. What we are saying is that the state of your homes window’s shouts subtle implications to those living in it. Letting in natural sun rays and repelling extreme weather lead to feelings of shelter and comfort which in turn lead to a more productive and happier life.

Why do office buildings always have long, wide windows? Because studies have proven that natural light increases mood and productivity, enough so that construction costs are increased significantly to accommodate a much less efficient design. Windows are the most important part of a home or office when it comes to regulating the environment. You close curtains at night to promote a dark and quiet ambiance and you open them up in the morning to increase energy. So why not open them fully? (We are insinuating that dirty windows are not fully open.) ????

Dirty windows diminish productivity and self-esteem, as well as overall energy and alertness. Could it be that if you paid to have your windows washed a couple of times a year so they don’t get “dirty” you could be 2% more effective in life and overall happier? That is what studies have shown. Now apply that to your spouse, your kids, and your dog. (We are just kidding about the dog.) Who doesn’t want more money, more time, and a happier family life? Simple math: 2% increase for an income of $50,000 is $1,000 which is more than double the cost of yearly window washing.

So now we ask, would you rather have clean windows or dirty windows?
